John Snow,

public official, was confirmed as treasury secretary in February, replacing Paul H. O'Neill, whom the president felt had not been an effective spokesman for the administration's economic policies. Before assuming the post, Snow was the chairman of CSX, the country's largest railroad, and served as an undersecretary in the Department of Transportation during the Ford administration.
