Daniel Libeskind,

architect, in February won the contest to design the site at the World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. His plans, which he has revised, include a hanging garden, a memorial, a cultural center, and a spiral tower reaching 1,776 feet tall, which will make it the tallest building in the world. He estimates the project, called the “Freedom Tower,” will cost about $320 million and take ten years to complete. But Larry Silverstein, the developer who owns the lease to the World Trade Center, has hinted that his rebuilding plan may deviate from Libeskind's.
