Democratic congresswoman who was the first Asian-American woman to serve in the House (1965–1977; 1990–2002). She was appointed assistant secretary for Oceans and Environmental Affairs in 1977 and reentered national politics in 1990. Died: Honolulu, Sept. 28, 2002
