Harvey Martin

Age: 51

four-time Pro Bowl defensive end with the Dallas Cowboys and the first Super Bowl MVP to die; won co-MVP honors with Randy White at Super Bowl XII 1978; one of the most popular Cowboys of the 1970s and early 80s, led Dallas in sacks seven times; holds team sack record for a career (113) and a season (20); won defensive player of the year honors in 1977; struggled with substance abuse, domestic violence and bankruptcy issues after retiring in 1984; jailed in 1996 on domestic violence and drug charges. He died of pancreatic cancer.
