Bobby Frank Cherry,

former member of the Ku Klux Klan, was sentenced to life in prison in May after being convicted of first-degree murder in the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church that killed four black girls in Birmingham, Ala. The bombing is considered the most heinous crime of the civil rights era. An accomplice, Thomas Blanton, Jr., was found guilty of the same charges in 2001.
