Richard Gordon Kleindienst
U.S. attorney general
Born: 8/5/1923

President Nixon's attorney general who served for one year during the Watergate scandal. When he learned of the break-in shortly after it occurred, Kleindienst balked at suggestions that presidential aides involved be protected from prosecution.

Died: Prescott, Ariz., 2/3/2000
