Vernon Walters

Age: 85

public official and general who served under President Nixon as the deputy director of the CIA and under Reagan as ambassador to the UN. In all, Walters worked for seven presidents. He spoke eight languages, often using his linguistic gift on diplomatic missions.

Died: West Palm Beach, Fla., Feb. 10, 2002
