Swedish author who wrote the classic children's book Pippi Longstocking. Pippi, a headstrong, rude orphan who answered only to herself, caused quite a stir when she first debuted in Sweden in 1945 and the U.S. in 1950. Died: Stockholm, Sweden, Jan. 28, 2002
