Camilo José Cela

Age: 85

Spanish writer who won the 1989 Nobel Prize in Literature and Spain's highest literary honor, the Cervantes Prize, in 1995. He's best known for his first book, The Family of Pascual Duarte, an example of his raw, intense, and experimental style.

Died: Madrid, Spain, Jan. 17, 2002
