Paul Warnke

Age: 81

public servant who openly questioned U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War while serving as the third-in-command in the Defense Department under President Johnson. A dove who argued against stockpiling nuclear weapons, Warnke headed the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency under President Carter and was the chief negotiator in the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks with the Soviets.
