Nathan Pusey

Age: 94

educator who served as Harvard University's 24th president (1953–71). Although the university underwent tremendous growth during his tenure (the budget and endowments quadrupled, and construction projects nearly doubled the school's size), he will be remembered for calling in local and state police to end an April 1969 building takeover by the Students for a Democratic Society. The officers used batons and tear gas to clear the building. Forty-five people were injured in the melee.

Died: Manhattan, Nov. 14, 2001
