Marvin Harris

controversial anthropologist who was described as “a storm center in his field” by the Washington Post. He was an expert in the theory of cultural materialism and challenged conventional assumptions about human social life. He was an anthropology professor at Columbia University (1952–81) and a graduate research professor of anthropology at the Univ. of Florida in Gainesville (1981–2000).
