Stan (Chook) Maxwell

Age: 66

pro hockey pioneer who, with Willie O'Ree, was one the first black players to break through the NHL's color barrier; starred Canada's junior hockey ranks and signed with Punch Imlach's Quebec Aces of the Quebec Hockey League at age 20; played for the Montreal Royals and spent a number of seasons in the International Hockey League; retired in 1971. He died of cancer.
