Ralph Miller Age: 82
Hall of Fame men's college basketball coach at Oregon State, Iowa and Wichita State; his 657 career victories places him 17th on the Div. I all-time list at the time of his death; had just three losing seasons during 38-year coaching career; won four Pac-10 titles at OSU and made eight NCAA tournament appearances in 19 seasons from 1971-89; his 1981 Beavers' team was ranked #1 for nine weeks; won two Big Ten titles in six seasons at Iowa; won one Missouri Valley Conference title in 13 seasons at Wichita State; two-time AP Coach of the Year; named NIT/Kodak Man of the Year in 1988; inducted into James Naismith Hall of Fame in 1988; retired in 1989; playing surface at Oregon St. is named after him. The cause of his death was not given. Died: Black Butte, Ore., May 15
