Abdurraham Wahid,

Indonesian president, was forced from power by Parliament in July because of incompetence and corruption. He was replaced by Vice President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Wahid's downfall was long in coming. In 2000 and throughout 2001 he was widely criticized for not stemming ethnic unrest in Aceh, Irian Jaya, the Moluccan Islands, and Borneo, as well as corruption. Frail and nearly blind form strokes, Wahid often dozed off as aides read his speeches.
