Mohammad Khatami,

Iranian politician, was reelected president in June, winning an overwhelming 77% of the vote. The win underscored the populace's desire for reform. Khatami has steadily introduced democratic practices, much to the displeasure of the hardline clerics who have dominated the country since the 1979 Islamic revolution.
