singer and dancer who claimed to have introduced the Charleston to Broadway in 1922. Known as the “Slim Princess,” Rutherford drew crowds to the Cotton Club and performed with Josephine Baker, Pearl Bailey, and Fats Waller. Died: Atlanta, Ga., March 8, 2001
