Einar Gustafson

Age: 65

young baseball fan, whose battle with a rare form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 1948 inspired the Jimmy Fund, a cancer research organization and the official charity of the Boston Red Sox; given the nickname "Jimmy" by the foundation's founder, who wanted Gustafson to remain annonymous; his identity was a mystery until 1997 when his sister sent an explanatory letter with her annual donation. He died of cancer.
