Morton Downey, Jr. Age: 67
contentious host of the short-lived but popular Morton Downey, Jr. Show, a 1980s talk show. Downey had a long and diverse career before he became an icon of the right wing. He had been a singer, record producer, disc jockey, and founder of the American Basketball Association. Pope Paul VI knighted Downey for his humanitarian work in the 1970s. Died: Los Angeles, Calif., March 12, 2001
