Robert Philip Hanssen,
senior FBI agent who specialized in counterintelligence, was indicted in May on charges of spying for Russia. For 15 years, he allegedly handed over to Russia highly sensitive, classified information in exchange for about $1.4 million. In July, as part of a plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to 15 counts of espionage and conspiracy, thus avoiding the death penalty.
