Al McGuire Age: 72
former Marquette college basketball coach and television commentator; coached Marquette from 1964-77 after seven seasons at Belmont (N.C.) Abby College; lead the Golden Eagles to 11 consecutive postseason appearances beginning in 1967; won NIT championship in 1970; won the school's only NCAA championship in his final game as a coach in 1977; won coach of the year honors in 1971 and 1974; his .739 winning percentage is top-20 all-time among Div. I coaches; elected to the basketball Hall of Fame in 1992; spent 23 years as a broadcaster, first with NBC in 1977 and then CBS since 1992; retired March 2000. He died of a blood disorder.
