Randolph A. Hearst Age: 85
the last surviving son of legendary publisher William Randolph Hearst. Hearst's 19-year-old daughter, Patricia, was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974, when he was president of the San Francisco Examiner, the family's flagship publication. The event dominated coverage nationwide, particularly in the Examiner. Hearst is credited with revitalizing the company in the 1970s and 1980s, making it one of the most powerful privately held companies in the country. Died: Manhattan, Dec. 18, 2000
