Sir Marcus Oliphant

Age: 98

nuclear physicist who helped to develop the atom bomb and discovered new forms of hydrogen and helium. He was shocked at the bomb's devastating effects on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and subsequently sought peaceful uses for nuclear technology. He served as governor of South Australia for five years.
