Noboru Takeshita

former Japanese prime minister and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party whose power and influence endured a bribery scandal that forced him—and several cabinet members—to resign. As finance minister in 1985, he guided the economy during the bubble years, when real estate and stock prices soared.
