Leonard Baskin

Age: 77

figurative sculptor and graphic artist known for his work that conveyed a sense of urgency and drama. Mortality was a common theme in his art, and he created a bas relief of a funeral cortège for the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. His notable prints include Mid-Century Monster and The Poet Laureate. He won a Caldecott Medal for illustrating the children's book Hosie's Alphabet. He died of an illness related to kidney problems.
