Karl Shapiro

Age: 86

Pulitzer Prize–winning iconoclast poet who gained fervent acclaim for V-Letter and Other Poems and Essay on Rime, which he wrote as a soldier in New Guinea during World War II. His star faded later in his career amid harsh criticism of his work.
