UN Peacekeeping Missions
Since 1948 there have been 63 UN peacekeeping operations, of which 47
have been created by the United Nations Security Council since 1988. Close
to 130 nations have contributed personnel at various times, and 119 are
currently providing peacekeepers. As of 31 August 2008, there were 16
peacekeeping operations under way with a total of 88,230 personnel. The
top contributors of military and civilian personnel to current missions
were Pakistan (10,173), Bangladesh (9,675), India (9,471), and Nepal
(3,628).
