John Rocker, Atlanta Braves pitcher, was suspended and fined in Feb. for offensive comments he made in an interview that appeared in a Dec. issue of Sports Illustrated. He said he would never play for a New York team because he didn't want to ride a train “next to some queer with AIDS, right next to some dude who just got out of jail for the fourth time, right next to some 20-year-old mom with four kids.” He was fined again and demoted to the minors in June after he allegedly threatened Sports Illustrated reporter Jeff Pearlman.
