Gil Kane

Age: 73

self-taught comic-book artist who, in the late 1950s and early '60s, reprised classic superheroes, such as Green Lantern and Atom, for DC Comics and Marvel. He later reinterpreted the Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Spider-Man. In 1990, he published a comic-book rendering of the Wagnerian opera The Ring Cycle.

Died: Miami, Jan. 31, 2000
