Gen. Augusto Pinochet,

84, former Chilean president, returned to Chile in March after being held under house arrest in England for more than a year. In Aug. he was stripped of his senatorial immunity, a move that brought him one step closer to standing trial on charges of genocide, torture, and kidnapping. The charges stem from his oppressive rule in Chile from 1973 to 1989.
