77, creator of the Peanuts comic strip, announced in Dec. that he is retiring. Schulz drew more than 18,000 comic strips that chronicled the tribulations of the hapless Charlie Brown. He was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. The Peanuts debuted in 1950 and went on to be the most widely read comic strip in the world.
