1930s star of the silver screen who, though tough in nature, excelled in her usual roles as the victim. Among her hits were An American Tragedy (1931), Fury (1936), and Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams (1973), in which she made a comeback performance. Died: New York, N.Y., July 1, 1999
