became the first NHL defenseman to score 20 goals in a season during the 1944-45 campaign with Detroit; record stood until Bobby Orr broke it by one goal 24 years later; played for Ottawa, Toronto, Boston and Detroit between 1933-46; nicknamed “Flash” because of his speed. Died: Toronto, April 20, 1999
