Whitney Tower

Age: 75

longtime horse racing journalist and former chairman of the National Racing Museum and Hall of Fame; joined the staff of the Cincinnati Enquirer as a sports reporter in 1948, but left in 1954 to join a start-up called Sports Illustrated and held the position of turf editor for 22 years; left to become editor of Classic magazine; won NTRA award for magazine writing in 1967 and Eclipse Awards in 1976-77; was president of the National Museum of Racing for eight years; spent 10 more years as chairman, supervising its expansion to include the Hall of Fame. He died of complications from a stroke.
