Robert Shaw

Age: 82

renowned choral music conductor who won 14 Grammy awards and one of the 1991 Kennedy Center Honors, among many other distinctions. Beginning his career as conductor of the Robert Shaw Chorale in the late 1940s, he later spent 31 years as director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Died: New Haven, Conn., January 25, 1999
