Percy Shaw

British inventor
Born: 1890

Originally working as a road repairer, he introduced a safety innovation that would make him a millionaire. By installing “cat's eyes” along the edges of the roads, he improved the safety of drivers in his West Yorkshire community. The idea proved promising, so he set up a factory, and mass-produced these self-cleaning reflective road posts.

Died: 1976
