Edward Bowes

entrepreneur, radio impresario
Born: 6/14/1874
Birthplace: San Francisco, Calif.

After leaving school at age 13 to work in an office, he founded a real estate business that flourished until the earthquake and fire in 1906. He and his wife, the actress Margaret Illington, moved east, running theatres in Boston and New York City. He built an early movie palace, the Capitol Theatre, in New York City. He later became a radio personality and owned New York radio station WHN.

Died: 6/14/1946
