Sir Basil Blackwell

Born: 1889
Birthplace: Oxford, Oxfordshire, England

After studying at Oxford, he entered the family bookselling business. He expanded the focus of the business and began publishing, founding the Shakespeare Head Press in 1921. When he assumed chairmanship of the firm in 1924, he incorporated publishing as an integral part of the family's bookselling business.

Died: 1984
