Shirley Povich

Washington Post columnist who's first byline appeared in 1923 and last appeared the day he died; logged more than 15,000 columns over his 75-year career covering sports; he became the youngest sports editor in the country at the age of 20 in 1926; his “This Morning” column ran six days a week from 1926 to 1974; he saw it all, from the Senators' first World Series championship in 1924 to Cassius Clay's upset of Sonny Liston in 1964 to the terrorism at the 1972 Olympics in Munich and Cal Ripken's 2,131st consecutive game played; one of his sons is talk show host Maury Povich, of a heart attack
