international surfing champion who helped found the Women's Professional Surfing Association and established the first professional tour for women; one of the first five women inducted into the International Surfing Museum's Walk of Fame; Sunn was the top-ranked woman on the longboard in 1982 before being diagnosed with cancer the following year; of breast cancer

Died: Makaha on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Jan. 2, 1998
