Chicago Bears all-time leader in career touchdowns thrown (137) and passing yards (14,686); named NFL MVP three times and All-Pro seven times; led Chicago to a 73-0 victory over Washington, which is still the most lopsided game in league history; after an All-American senior season at Columbia, Bears owner George Halas traded two players and a draft choice to Pittsburgh to acquire Luckman in 1939; spent 14 years as a part-time coach with the Bears and other teams after retiring in 1950, but never accepted a coaching salary from the Bears; after football he went to work for Cellu-Craft Inc. which makes wrapping materials for food companies; cause of death not given Died: North Miami Beach, Fla., July 5, 1998
