first black assistant coach in the American Football League and former personnel director for the New England Patriots; played collegiately at UCLA and professionally for Chicago, San Diego and the Boston Patriots; joined Patriots staff in 1966, but left a few years later to head the Florida Blazers of the World Football League; served two prison terms for sexual misconduct and drug convictions before turning to the ministry; became an activist in the Miami black community and hosted a sports show on county jail TV where he was given the nickname, “All-Pro Pastor”; of complications from diabetes
