Measuring Body Mass
Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and
weight that applies to both adult men and adult women. To determine BMI,
weight in kilograms is divided by height in meters, squared. To calculate
your body mass index from the table below, locate your height in inches in
the left-hand column, then follow it across until you locate your weight;
the number at the very top is your body mass index. A BMI of less than
18.5 is considered underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 is considered normal weight,
25 to 29.9 is considered overweight, and one of 30 or above is considered
obese.
