Diana married Charles, Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, to great popular acclaim in 1981. She had two sons, Prince William (1982) and Prince Henry (1984), also known as Prince Harry. In a public dispute that dominated tabloid journalism, the royal couple were legally separated in 1992, and divorced in 1996. With a sincere interest in social concerns and an engaging personality, Diana became a popular public figure in her own right.
