Toshiro Mifune Age: 77 actor
One of the most talented Japanese actors to grace the silver screen, Mifune was best known for his samurai roles. His ability to play both tragic and comic characters made him a favorite of renowned director Akira Kurosawa, and he starred in 16 of the director's films. Mifune will be best remembered in the United States for his portrayal of the warlord Toranaga in the television miniseries Shogun. He starred in more than 100 films, including The Seven Samurai, Rashomon and Yojimbo. Born: 1920? Died: Dec. 24, 1997
