Robert Palmer music critic, historian, musician, producer
One of the country's premier music critics and writers, Palmer covered alternative music, jazz, blues and roots for scholarly and popular publications, including Ethnomusicology, Rolling Stone and the New York Times. Palmer was also a respected jazz clarinetist who often played beside Ornette Coleman. He also taught music courses at Yale, Carnegie Mellon and Bowdoin College. His books include A Tale of Two Cities: Memphis Rock and New Orleans Roll and Deep Blues. He was the chief adviser for the 10-part public television series Rock and Roll: An Unruly History.
