Paul Jarrico

screenwriter

Jarrico, a blacklisted screenwriter and producer, died in a car accident after a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the House Committee on Un-American Activities investigative hearings on Hollywood figures. He was singled out at the ceremony for his bold defiance during the witch hunt. In his film Salt of the Earth, Jarrico publicly used blacklisted actors, and as a result, the film about a zinc mine strike ran in only a few theaters. His other credits include Tom, Dick and Harry, The Las Vegas Story and Five Branded Women.
