longtime radio announcer for the Texas Rangers from 1981–94; had been the team's play-by-play television announcer since 1994; voted Texas sportscaster of the year eight times, Holtz was elected to the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990; broadcast his final game on May 22; of complications from a bone marrow transplant for treatment of leukemia
