won an Olympic gold medal as a member of the 1924 U.S. Rugby Team that beat heavily favored France in Paris; last year that rugby was an Olympic sport after rioting following the U.S. victory forced organizers to reconsider; officials had a special tunnel for the U.S. players to escape from the crowd, wanted to see rugby reinstated as an Olympic sport and had aspirations to throw out the first ball in the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney; of natural causes
