probably best remembered for being thrown out at home plate as a Brooklyn Dodger in the last of the ninth in the final game of the 1950 World Series; had he scored on Duke Snider's hit it would have forced a playoff for the National League pennant which the Phillies would go on to win on a home run the next inning; of a heart attack
